Micah Prophecies to Israel and Judah

Micah is dealing with a people and a time where they felt everything was going well. But in their comfort and contentment they became very complacent. They began to ignore the commands of God and devise ways to sin – judgment was imminent. Micah records three sermons preached to Israel and Judah to warn them and to call them to repentance. But all through Micah we see that although God must deal with sin, He loves mercy and will ultimately restore Israel. Bible Text: Micah 1:1-2:13

A City Convicted, A Servant Corrected

Jonah gets a second chance to carry out Gods work. And a great revival takes place in Ninevah. But it’s exactly what Jonah didn’t want to see happen. There’s some real attitude adjustments needed on Jonah, so God takes time to graciously work in Jonah. He’s much more concerned for the minister than the ministry! Bible Text: Jonah 3:1-4:11

The Prayer & Deliverance of Jonah

The rebellious, renegade, prophet ends up getting stopped in his tracks and finds himself in the belly of a great fish. That would definitely be a good time to pray, which is what Jonah does. And in his prayer we see a humbled man who is thanking God for not letting him perish in the sea. Bible Text: Jonah 2:1-10

The Grace Chase

Jonah is a man on the run. He’s running from having to go to Ninevah, and he’s running from God. Not only is he afraid of the Ninevites, but Jonah is actually afraid that God will show mercy to them and spare them. Not what Jonah wanted. He is the prodigal prophet. But God goes after him, and ultimately uses Jonah to give Ninevah an opportunity to repent. It’s the great grace chase! Bible Text: Jonah 1:1-17

The Pride & Destruction of Edom

Obadiah is a book written entirely against a nation other than Israel – Edom. Who were the Edomites and why did they have a book entirely devoted to them? Listen to this study to see where they went wrong and what we can learn from them. Bible Text: Obadiah 1-21

Present Judgment, Future Restoration

Amos receives another vision from God, this time it’s of a basket of summer fruit – the ripe fruit ready for picking. Israel was this ripe fruit, ready for the judgment of God. Yet as we go through these chapters, we see that God is very gracious, still giving people an opportunity to turn back to Him. There will be a faithful remnant that will remain. And as we close out the book we end with the wonderful picture of Israel’s restoration, which ultimately comes through the Messiah – Jesus Christ. Bible Text: Amos 8:1-9:15

The Plumb Line Is Set

Amos preaches his fifth and final message to Israel, who’ve been living in the lap of luxury without any concern for God’s Word of coming judgment. Amos is shown three visions, one of which reveals the plumb line of the Lord. Israel has been a crooked nation and needs to be set right. It’s a definite reminder for us to be sure we’re lined up with God’s Word. Bible Text: Amos 6:1-7:17

Seek Me And Live

We’ve been looking at the coming judgment against Israel for their rebellion, sin and injustices towards their own people. Yet in the midst of impending judgment, God is calling out to individuals to stop what they’re doing and return to Him. God desires that none would perish, and we see His incredible grace in this passage. Bible Text: Amos 5:1-27

Amos 3:1-4:13 – A Word To Sinning Israel

Amos begins a series of sermons against Israel for their sin against God and against their own people. Judgment is coming, but God is faithful to send someone like Amos to ultimately see God’s covenant people repent and return to their God. Bible Text: Amos 3:1-4:13

Amos 1:1-2:16 – A Word To The Nations

Amos was just a simple sheep breeder in a small town. Yet God took an ordinary guy and placed an extraordinary calling on his life. Amos would be used of the Lord to share His message to the people of Israel who had drifted from their covenant relationship with God. In the book of Amos we see the care and compassion of God toward the unfair treatment of others. These first two chapters reveal the sovereignty of God as He has a word of judgment for various nations surrounding Israel, and then hits home to Israel themselves. Bible Text: Amos 1:1-2:16
