Solomon gives many comparisons in this chapter between the foolish person and the righteous one. The righteous walk in God’s ways and enjoy blessing and happiness. The foolish go their own way and are heading toward disaster.

Solomon concludes his discourse on life under the sun. He’s been seeing that it’s all vanity when lived apart from God. But life is not meant to be empty. Life is meant to be enjoyed when lived God’s way. We look at the life worth living in our wrap up of Ecclesiastes.

The life of Wisdom is not a hard, mundane life. It’s a life recognizing that God’s ways are best. He’s the One in control, and we simply follow Him. When we do this we find it’s a life of pleasure and peace ultimately.

We look at a number of key points in this chapter, but one thing really emerges: wisdom, obedience, and the fear of the Lord leads to the satisfying life.

The Vanity of Religion & Riches
Solomon contemplates the insincerity he saw of those coming to the temple to worship and who were simply going through the motions. Then he turns to wealth to show that living for these things cannot satisfy. Religion and Riches are both vanity if we don’t have a heart first for God.

Buyer Beware
Solomon gives a very strong warning to his son in this chapter to beware of sin – specifically sexual sin. Though it can seem very enticing, it will leave you devastated. Sin can never deliver on what it promises you.

In this study we see how the life of wisdom brings the blessed life. Wisdom is greater than the richest treasure, and adds quality to life. It is something definitely worth attaining.

The End Result of Sin
The book of Lamentations is a continuation from Jeremiah. Jeremiah warned the people of Judah that her sin and idolatry was paving the way for God’s judgment. The book of Lamentation is written in the aftermath of this judgment as Jerusalem and the temple is destroyed and the grief and mourning is heavy. Jeremiah writes to express this heartache of anguish yet reveals the hope we have in God in times of calamity.
